- Use pre-cut tongue and groove or chamfered boards that fit tightly.
- Insert boards at least 300mm into impermeable soil in ditch sides and bed to prevent leaks.
- Ensure boards are long enough to reach the desired water level.
- Install boards starting with a vertical central board, then building outwards to each ditch bank.
- Secure final boards into ditch banks using horizontal timbers.
- For seepage barriers, construct using wooden slats with a 2mm gap between them, supported by posts and braced with horizontal timbers.
- Consider installing metal channelling for sluice boards and a plank bridge for access and structural strength.
