tips_and_updates Additional Advice
- Choose sites in low input, semi-natural habitats with small catchments, unconnected to other water bodies to prevent pollution.
- Aim to create a variety of pond types close to other freshwater habitats to encourage biodiversity.
- Manage only part of the pond at any one time, retaining existing habitat like leaf litter and woody debris.
- Vary management plans across multiple ponds to maintain diversity in the pond complex.
- Obtain a wildlife licence if the pond contains a protected species.
- Link habitats wherever possible to improve connectivity for wildlife.
