tips_and_updates Additional Advice
- Design the wetland in at least 3 stages: an open pond sediment trap, a planting stage for nutrient removal, and a shallow, heavily vegetated wetland for pollutant reduction.
- Throughout construction, restrict livestock access, build on a non-permeable substrate or line the area, and avoid sandy/gravelly/wet soil.
- Ensure gentle slopes (max 1 in 4), undulated pond edges for habitat, and outlet pipes larger than inlet pipes.
- Agree an acceptable water quality standard with the Environment Agency before directing any outfall into a watercourse.
