RP30
Floating covers for slurry and anaerobic digestate stores and lagoons
£2.75
info Summary
This Capital Grant (RP30) provides funding for installing floating covers on slurry and anaerobic digestate stores and lagoons to reduce slurry volume, improve air quality by cutting ammonia emissions, and enhance biodiversity.
format_list_bulleted What to do
- Install a rainproof floating cover with a minimum design life of 5 years on a slurry or anaerobic digestate store or tank.
- Ensure the store's banks can support the cover and fastenings.
- Install the cover when the store is empty.
- Direct rainwater away from the cover into a clean water drain or harvesting system.
- Display warning signs for confined spaces and fragile covers.
- Secure the cover against wind damage and prevent rainwater mixing with slurry.
- Meet SSAFO regulations 2010 and, if applicable, NVZ requirements.
- Regularly remove rainwater from the cover and ensure it can rise uniformly.
schedule When to do
- Before starting any work, get advice from the Environment Agency regarding SSAFO regulations for new/altered stores.
- Obtain relevant advice, consents, or permits from the Environment Agency.
- Contact your local planning authority to check if planning permission is needed.
