Action’s aim

This action’s aim is that improved and semi-improved grassland is maintained under organic management.

The purpose of this is to:

  • improve soil health
  • increase biodiversity
  • improve water quality

Where you can do this action

You can do this action on agricultural land located below the moorland line that’s:

Eligible land

  • Eligible land type: Improved permanent grassland
  • Eligible land cover: Permanent grassland
  • Compatible land use code: PG01
  • Eligible land type: Low input grassland that’s semi-improved
  • Eligible land cover: Permanent grassland
  • Compatible land use code: PG01
  • Eligible land type: Arable land used to grow crops, that you’ll convert to permanent grassland
  • Eligible land cover: Arable land
  • Compatible land use code: Land use codes for arable crops or leguminous and nitrogen-fixing crops

Eligibility of protected land

  • Land or features with protection: Sites of special scientific interest (SSSIs)
  • Eligibility: Eligible – you must get SSSI consent before you do this action (read section 10.3 ‘SSSI consent’ in the SFI scheme information to find out how to do this)
  • Land or features with protection: Historic and archaeological features
  • Eligibility: Eligible – you must get a SFI HEFER before you do this action (read section 5.6 ‘Land with historic or archaeological features’ in the SFI scheme information to find out how to do this)

Where you can do this action - an eligible land type is defined in section 5.1 ‘Eligible land types for SFI’ in the SFI scheme information. Eligible land - updated land type to semi-improved ‘low input’ permanent grassland (which is defined in section 5.1 in the updated SFI scheme information). Eligibility of protected land - updated link to section 10.3 ‘SSSI consent’ in the SFI scheme information. Other actions or options you can do on the same area - added supplemental actions SPM2 and SPM3.
