tips_and_updates Additional Advice
- Consider employing specialist contractors.
- Pick areas where peat and mineral soils have been drained or areas targeted by Natural England as priority habitat for re-wetting.
- When constructing blocks, ensure they are wider than the grip/channel and keyed into sides, block grips from the top downwards, and dams match topography (7m or less apart) allowing grips to fill above the next dam.
- Ensure dam tops are slightly higher than ground level after installation for proper overflow, use a very low ground pressure excavator, and minimise vehicle movement.
- Show the location of any historic or archaeological features in your plan to avoid damage.
- Reduce machine damage by factoring in site access, surrounding habitat, and using low pressure/appropriate machines in your plan.
