CIPM2: Flower-rich grass margins, blocks or in-field strips

£798.00

per hectare · yearly

info Summary

Establish and maintain a multi-annual flower-rich grass mix in margins, blocks or in-field strips to provide habitat and foraging sites for invertebrates and encourage natural crop pest predators.

format_list_bulleted What to do

Establish and maintain a flower-rich grass mix in margins, blocks, or in-field strips, using a seed mix with at least 4 grass species and 10 wildflower species. Existing eligible margins can also be maintained.

schedule When to do

If establishing a new mix, it must be sown by early autumn within the first 12 months. Existing or new mixes must be maintained for the duration of the action.

checklist How to do

Follow the mandatory requirements identified by a 'must' to achieve the action's aim. Optional advice is available for additional guidance.

description Evidence Required

You must keep evidence to show what you’ve done to complete this action, such as:

  • field operations at a land parcel level and associated invoices, including details of the seed mix used
  • photographs or other documentation

If it’s not clear that you’ve done this action in a way that could reasonably be expected to achieve its aim, we may ask for this evidence. You must supply the evidence if we ask for it.

tips_and_updates Additional Advice

Consider doing CIPM1 for integrated pest management planning. Choose appropriate seed mixes for local conditions, sow in sunny, low-fertility areas, and manage establishment through cutting. Once established, manage through cutting or grazing outside of nesting season to maintain flower diversity.
