CIGL2

CIGL2: Winter bird food on improved grassland

£515.00

per hectare · yearly

info Summary

Maintain improved grassland by allowing it to go to seed during autumn and winter to provide food for farmland birds. This involves cutting for silage or hay and leaving it un-grazed after the final cut.

format_list_bulleted What to do

Maintain improved grassland by cutting it for silage or hay in a way that allows it to go to seed, and then leaving it un-grazed after the final cut. The land cannot be used if it's already being paid for under another scheme option like CS GS3.

schedule When to do

If the action is static, you must start within 12 months of the start date and continue each year. If rotational, the action must be completed each year for a duration sufficient to achieve the aim.

checklist How to do

You can choose your own methods as long as you follow the mandatory requirements and work towards achieving the action's aim.

description Evidence Required

You must keep evidence to show what you’ve done to complete this action, such as:

  • field operations at a land parcel level and associated invoices
  • photographs or other documentation

If it’s not clear that you’ve done this action in a way that could reasonably be expected to achieve its aim, we may ask for this evidence. You must supply the evidence if we ask for it.

tips_and_updates Additional Advice

Use sites with high ryegrass cover and space multiple areas across the farm to benefit a wider range of birds. Stop cutting or grazing in late May or June, depending on the ryegrass species, to allow seed production and minimise subsequent disturbance.
