format_list_bulleted What to do
- Control invasive species using adviser-agreed methods
- Allow native vegetation to re-establish on cleared sites
- Monitor and record the impact of control activity in years 1, 3, and 5 (e.g., before/after photos, monitoring results)
- Send a species management plan with your application
schedule When to do
- Do this action each year of its 5-year duration
checklist How to do and evidence required
You must keep evidence to show what you have done to complete this action. If it’s not clear that you have done this action in a way that could reasonably be expected to achieve its aim, the Rural Payments Agency (RPA) may ask for this evidence.
You must supply the evidence if they ask for it, including:
- monitoring reports to show impact of the invasive species control activity
- bank statements, receipted invoices, consents, or permissions connected with the work
- records of management activity on the action area for each parcel, including an operational site assessment (or similar) to show your woodland operations are compliant with the UK Forestry Standard (UKFS)
- photographic evidence of your monitoring of sites
tips_and_updates Additional Advice
- Control invasive non-native species (INNS) which are a top threat to biodiversity, spread quickly, outcompete native vegetation, and can be poisonous.
- Follow your agreed PA7: Species management plan, which includes measures to prevent spread and outlines appropriate control methods (chemical, mechanical, or manual removal).
- Reduce INNS cover and density or eradicate them, then manage remaining vegetation to prevent spread and allow native plant communities to colonise.
- Do not use this action to control native invasive species like injurious weeds, gorse, rush infestations, brambles, nettles, or bracken (use specific capital items for these).
- Follow relevant rules and good practice for the control and disposal of invasive non-native plants.
